Students across the Central West region have been given a significant opportunity to showcase their excellence in STEM-based learning gained during 2019. Schools have been invited to submit either existing projects they have worked on during the year, or if they feel inspired, they can submit totally new projects for consideration in the inaugural SISP STEM Awards. The Prime Minister’s Prizes for Science is open for nominations. The Federal Government program awards up to $750,000 in total each year for two categories; science and innovation and teaching.
The prizes recognise the achievements and success of Australian scientists and innovators to both Australia and internationally, as well as the critical role science educators play in inspiring and encouraging students to take an interest in science and consider science as a career.
RDA Central West in conjunction with CASE, the Canobolas Academy of STEM Excellence held a STEM Industry Partnership Program (SISP) Design Thinking Workshop at Orange Agricultural Institute on Monday 12th November 2018.
The course facilitator and teacher was Glenn Lawrence a knowledgeable educator who loves helping students design and create. Professionally, Glenn has worked as an industrial designer in both Australia and China and has over 10 years of experience as a TAS teacher in NSW secondary schools.
Regional Development Australia Central West recently held its first workshop for the Pilot STEM Industry School Partnership (SISP) Program at Canobolas Rural Technology High in Orange.
The Sphero Robotics workshop was attended by 10 teachers from Orange East, Bletchington, Clergate, Spring Hill, Calare, Bowen, Glenroi Heights and Mullion Creek public schools.
‘Connecting Regional Youth to Regional Industries’
Regional Development Australia (RDA) Central West is collaborating with RDAs Hunter and Southern Inland to pilot a program that provides students in years 5 to 8 in each region with age appropriate STEM skills and pathways to STEM jobs.
Funded by the NSW Department of Education, the STEM Industry School Partnership Program (SISP) matches schools in each region with an industry partner and technology program.
