This week Regional Development Australia Central West (RDA Central West) celebrated the official launch of the Farm to Organisation Producer Directory.
Launched during Orange’s iconic F.O.O.D Week, more than 40 people gathered at the CWA Hall in Robertson Park to meet local producers, sample their products and learn more about their business in a live Q&A discussion.
RDA Central West CEO, Sam Harma said the launch was a great success.
“This is a big milestone for the Farm to Organisation project,” said Mr Harma.
“Farm to Org. is all about creating new pathways for producers and farmers to market directly to local businesses, organisations and institutions such as schools, restaurants and health facilities.
“The directory simplifies this process and features over 60 local producers and manufacturers from our region.
“The Central West is renowned for its fine food and the directory will play a big part in ensuring more organisations, businesses, institutions and communities can access the wonderful produce that is grown right here in our own backyard.”
Seven local producers attended the launch including Chocolate on Purpose, MSM Milling, Tablelands Premier Meats, Small Acres Cyder, The Orange Fermentary, Greentrees Gourmet Preserves and Mr Fig.
“During the panel it was wonderful to hear the producers discuss the increased awareness and greater appreciation for local produce from consumers,” added Mr Harma.
“They shared the same optimism that there is a growing demand for local produce and we hope that through the Farm to Org Producer Directory, this encourages more organisations and businesses to source local and buy more local produce.”
The Farm to Org venture is supported by Newcrest’s Cadia Valley Operations, Charles Sturt University and Orange F.O.O.D Week.
