AgriTech Experience Day for Year 7 and 8 students

Students from Canobolas Rural Technology High School and Orange High School experienced AgriTech and the latest technologies first hand the AgriTech Experience Day put on by RDA Central West and the Canobolas Academy of STEM Excellence on Friday 23rd November.

About 45 students attended the one-day workshop which was facilitated by the AgriTech Education and Innovation Team from CQUniversity Australia with their GPS Cow’s program.

The aim of the program is to increase the knowledge and skills of students in emerging AgriTech, specifically tools and systems which provide animal location and behaviour data.

Activities on the day included using accelerometers to track animal movement and activity, using GPA Cows by visually analysing livestock tracking data to determine areas of high paddock utilisation, measuring the colour of plants to detect vegetation.

All leaders at the workshop are passionate about engaging students in AgriTech to showcase opportunities in the agricultural sector and encourage students to consider tertiary study and a career in the industry.
