The STEM Industry School Partnership Program lead by RDA Central West along with Canobolas Academy of STEM Excellence recently held an AgriTech Experience Day for Year 5 and 6 students of Bowen Public School in Orange.
The day was put on for Stage 3 students with a particular interest or talents in Agriculture, Science and using Technology.
The event was facilitated by the AgriTech and Education Team from CQUniversity Australia who lead the GPS Cows program. This team is passionate about engaging students in AgriTech to showcase opportunities in the agricultural sector and encourage students to consider tertiary study and a career in the industry.
The AgriTech Experience Day was held at Canobolas Rural Technology High School in Orange and was attended by 50 Year 5 and 6 students.
Student activities included using accelerometers to track animal movement and activity, measuring the colour of plants to detect vegetation, soil pH testing and testing the quality of water available for animals.
The day was not only a good chance for students to learn more about agriculture but also to get some hands-on experience with emerging technologies.
